  42CrMo4 steel   grade is an alloy steel for quenching and tempering. Grade 42CrMo4 products are mainly used for the manufacture of machine parts like   cylinder piston rod   and roller shafts. Steel is made in accordance with the requirements of the DIN EN ISO 683-2 standard (formerly EN 10083-3). AISI 4140/ 42Crmo4 is the most used  quenched and tempered  steel, It has an elevated harden ability, good heat resistance, excellent forging and good machinability with machine tools. It can be hardened on the surface or nitried in order to elevate the wear resistance and the fatigue strength. Quenched and tempered and  nitrited cylinder rods  can substitute the case-hardened and hardened ones, if they are not submitted to too elevated pressure.
